Hitomi, jeune lycéenne
possédant le don de cartomancie,
est téléportée malgré elle sur la
planète Gaïa où elle fait connaissance du roi
Van Slanzar
de Fanel du royaume de Fanélia (descendant du peuple des
Atlantes)
et du chevalier Allen Schezar du royaume d'Astria.
Tous deux luttent contre l'empire Zaïbacher à bord de
leurs guymelefs (sortes d'armures géantes, des
mechas):
Escaflowne et Sheherazade. Hitomi se retrouve alors au cœur
du conflit.
